With one year ending and another just beginning, it is always a good time for reflection and resolution...
2016 was a year full of changes here at Ironworks Press. We made some big decisions to invest in additional equipment and add many new products and services for our customers. Our goal was to provide affordable products and services to individuals, groups, and small business owners, focusing on smaller quantities to help them grow their businesses, or to raise funds to meet their fundraising goals.
While we provided some wonderful products (both personal and branded) last year, we found it difficult to compete with the larger promotional companies, big box stores, as well as, the many local brick and mortar shops in the Ottawa area. Most customers were looking for very inexpensive screen printed promotional products (usually for branded give-aways), which we do not offer. In an attempt, to keep costs down for our local customers, we began to offer in-studio pick-up to avoid shipping fees. However, it was evident that Ashton was still too far for most to travel to pick up their orders.
What we have come to realize is that most customers want convenience, as well as, inexpensive products. It is very convenient to place an online photo and gift order with the local Costco, Walmart, Staples, or Shoppers Drug Mart, and pick it up while shopping for everyday purchases. For customers who prefer to shop online, and do not mind paying for shipping, they tend to support the larger companies such as Vistaprint, Shutterfly, and WHCC. For many others, they make decisions to support brick and mortar shops in their own neighbourhoods … we understand and fully support their decisions!
This all being said, we have made the decision to remove some products and services, and offer for sale, the respective equipment which is not being utilized to its full capacity.
Effective immediately, our Print Studio (Photo Printing) and Archive Centre (Scanning) will be disabled on our website. We saw a huge decrease in the number of scanning orders received from previous years, therefore, our scanning equipment will be sold.
Our photo printing service was growing, however, not to the levels required to keep and maintain a large commercial dry lab such as the Fuji DL600, therefore, our lab will be sold too. If our Christmas/Holiday Photo Card sales would have been higher this holiday season, we may have reconsidered our Print Studio, however, our sales did not warrant continuing to keep our online Print Studio open any longer.
During the next few weeks, we will be re-evaluating all our products and services, as well as, our overall business plan, and making more difficult decisions if required. Stay posted for more updates.
We wish you all health and happiness in 2017!
